My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a good collection of short stories, written by the author Roald Dahl. I have loved his stories since I was a little dragonet, so was absolutely thrilled to be able to pick up a copy of this book recently. The first section deals primarily with stories that were subsequently filmed for ‘Tales of the Unexpected’, while the second section deals with stories of RAF pilots during WWII. The third section is more adult in nature, dealing with illicit affairs and extravagant plots to sleep with other people’s wives. They all were entertaining – some were sad, some were surreal or even funny, while others were macabre and quite dark in tone. I think my favourites were ‘Royal Jelly’, ‘The Great Switcheroo’ and ‘Genesis and Catastrophe’ although it was very hard to choose even those favourites. I’m sure that I will enjoy this selection of stories again in the future.
